Bill Viola
(born 1951, New York City, USA)
American pioneer of video and sound installation art who has become one
of the leading artists of his generation. Viola claims that the video
camera is a piece of recording equipment that situates objects and people
within a larger environmental field. He seeks to extract a visionary sense
perception from technology and make the link with spiritual disciplines
such as Taoism and shamanism.
