Kraftwerk
(formed 1971, DŸsseldorf, Germany)
Avant pop composers and electronic dance-music originators who started
the vogue for bands performing onstage with personal computers. Kraftwerk
used drum machines and rhythm boxes to produce such hypnotic expressions
of beat minimalism as Autobahn and Trans-Europe Express. They went on
to radically influence New York electro, English dance-pop and Detroit
techno.
