Angela
Carter
(born 1940, Eastbourne, Sussex, England; died 1992, London, England)
Feminist novelist and short story writer whose literary profile was raised
by the adaptation of her work in the 1984 horror movie, The Company
of Wolves. Carter's novels included The Magic Toyshop, The Infernal
Desire Machines of Doctor Hoffman and Wise Children. The stories
in The Bloody Chamber saw her returning a grotesque humour and
dark eroticism to traditional fairy tales.
